Case Studies. Real Projects, Real Engineering.
From municipal winter festivals to custom architectural centerpieces, every Just Ice installation comes with its own site conditions, constraints, and problem-solving story. Below are real examples from our 300+ completed projects — including how our engineering team responded when things didn't go exactly to plan.
Engineering a Custom Under-Ice Collector System for an Oval Rink at Tema World, Istanbul
Location: Istanbul, Turkey | Client: Tema World | Type: Real Ice, Mobile | Size: 250 m² net ice area | Installed in: 15 days
Tema World Istanbul required a 250 m² net ice area in a striking amphitheater-style oval layout, with spectator stands along the sides — fully open-air.
-
The Challenge: The oval base had a built-in drainage slope for rainwater, dropping 15 cm from the center to the edges — an unusually steep variance for an ice rink foundation. The rink also needed to be fully mobile, and the piping collectors could not obstruct the walkway around the rink.
-
Our Response: We designed a custom center-distributed collector system specifically for this site. Instead of standard round plastic piping, we used horizontal galvanized box-profile piping for the collector itself — engineered so the collector could freeze along with the rest of the rink, effectively embedding it beneath the ice surface. To correct the 15 cm slope, we added thermal insulation beneath the lower sections of the base, bringing every pipe run level with the central collector. Because the installation was fully outdoor, we used an aluminum piping system for superior thermal conductivity and faster freezing.
-
The Result: The project took 15 days to complete — longer than our standard 10-day estimate — due to the extra site-leveling work and additional flooding cycles needed to build up ice height over the naturally higher collector zone. The following year, the same client commissioned the identical project again. This time, using refined calculations and laser-based site measurements from the start, technical issues were reduced significantly — a direct result of the engineering insight gained on the first build.

Zero-Leak Waterproofing and Climate-Adapted Cooling for a 200 m² Rink in Algeria
Location: Algeria | Client: Shopping mall (2nd floor) | Type: Real Ice, Custom Chiller | Size: 200 m² | Year: 2024
For a shopping mall client in Algeria, Just Ice installed a 200 m² real ice rink on the mall's second floor — directly above a children's play area on the floor below.
-
The Challenge: The client's absolute priority was zero water leakage to the floor below. The site also required cooling equipment engineered for a hot climate.
-
Our Response: Before any ice was made, we built a full waterproofing test into the installation plan: the rink area was enclosed with a low perimeter wall, the floor was covered with a waterproof membrane, and the entire area was filled with water and left for 7–10 days. Only after confirming zero leakage did we proceed to install the rink. In parallel, we manufactured a custom chiller unit specifically engineered for the region's hot climate conditions.
-
What We Learned: The rink installed without incident, but unstable grid voltage in the region began stressing the chiller, causing damage within the first month. Some repairs were covered under warranty; for a permanent fix, we added a voltage regulator so incoming power is stabilized before reaching the chiller. The system has now run continuously for roughly two years, through both summer and winter, without further issues.
-
The Result: Zero water damage since installation, and a climate- and grid-adapted cooling system that has proven reliable long-term — a direct result of testing for the client's specific risk before construction began.
Turning a Former Football Pitch into a 300 m² Christmas Market Ice Rink
A municipality partnered with Just Ice to install a 300 m² real ice rink as the centerpiece of their Christmas market for the 2026 season, on a 3-month rental basis.
-
The Challenge: The chosen site was a former football pitch. The pitch's painted markings — the center circle, penalty area lines, and other field markings — had left subtle but real elevation differences across the ground surface.
-
Our Response: Our team filled over the painted line areas with sand to fully level the surface before laying the rink flooring, eliminating the unevenness left behind by the old pitch markings.
-
The Result: Over 40,000 visitors passed through the rink during the 3-month season. Demand was strong enough that the municipality extended the operating period by an additional month, and the client has already confirmed plans to work with Just Ice again next year.

Building a 260 m² Real Ice Rink Around an 8×8 m Monumental Statue in Athens
Location: Athens, Greece | Client: Confidential | Type: Real Ice, Open-Air | Size: 260 m² | Year: 2023
In 2023, Just Ice delivered a 260 m² open-air real ice rink in Athens, Greece, with an unusual design brief: the client wanted a large statue, occupying an 8×8 m footprint, placed at the very center of the ice.
-
The Challenge: Standard under-floor piping runs in a continuous layout across the entire rink area — leaving no room for a large fixed object in the middle.
-
Our Response: Our engineering team rerouted a section of the floor cooling system's piping around the statue's 8×8 m footprint, integrating the centerpiece into the 260 m² rink design without compromising the rink's freezing performance.
-
The Result: A fully functional 260 m² real ice rink with a striking 8×8 m monumental centerpiece at its heart — a good example of how Just Ice adapts standard engineering to unusual creative requests.
Recovering a Synthetic Ice Rink After Ground Subsidence in Istanbul
Location: Istanbul, Turkey | Client: Premium shopping mall | Type: Synthetic Ice, Rental | Size: 100 m² | Installed in: 2 days | Duration: 1 month | Year: 2025
Just Ice installed a 100 m² synthetic ice rink for a premium shopping mall in Istanbul.
-
The Challenge: The installation site had sloped ground, requiring a temporary support platform. After the rink opened, rainfall softened the underlying soil, and a 5 m² section of the platform subsided.
-
Our Response: Our team removed the affected panels, reinforced the platform's support legs to correct the subsidence, remounted the panels, and reapplied the surface gliding solution — restoring full operation with minimal disruption to the venue.
-
The Result: The rink continued operating for the remainder of its rental term with no further issues — demonstrating Just Ice's ability to respond quickly and keep commercial installations running.
Leak Detection Engineering for a 200 m² Real Ice Rink
A municipality commissioned a 200 m² real ice rental rink, installed in 4 days and operated for 40 days, for the 2025–2026 season.
-
The Challenge: As with most real ice rink systems over an extended operating period, the underfloor piping developed small leaks over time.
-
Our Response: Our technicians identified and sealed each leak point individually, then replenished the glycol lost from the system. To make future leak detection faster, Just Ice adds a blue tracing dye to the glycol coolant — any drop in fluid or visible trace immediately flags a leak location, minimizing diagnostic time.
-
The Result: Full system integrity restored with minimal downtime over the 40-day rental period, and a diagnostic method in place that keeps future maintenance fast and precise.

Leveling a Sloped Site for a 200 m² Real Ice Rink
For a municipality's 2025 winter season, Just Ice delivered a 200 m² real ice rink on a rental basis, installed in 3 days for a 1-month run.
-
The Challenge: The designated site had a noticeably sloped, uneven surface — unsuitable for direct rink installation.
-
Our Response: Our team framed the perimeter with curbstones and rebuilt the base with a leveled sand foundation before laying the rink flooring, ensuring a flat, safe skating surface despite the site's natural grade.
-
The Result: A fully level, safely operating rink delivered on the municipality's original timeline — proof that Just Ice's site-adaptation engineering works even on non-ideal terrain.

A 400 m² Real Ice Rink for a Municipal Winter Season
A municipality partnered with Just Ice to bring a 400 m² real ice rink to their region for the 2026 winter season. The rental installation was completed and fully operational within 4 days, running for a 2-month season.
-
The Challenge: Mid-season, heavy snow accumulation on the rink's tent structure caused localized damage to the covering.
-
Our Response: A Just Ice technical team was deployed on-site to repair the damaged section of the tent. The rink remained on schedule, with no meaningful interruption to public access.
-
The Result: Over 30,000 visitors skated at the rink over the two-month period. Local staff and visitors consistently noted the friendliness and attentiveness of our on-site skating instructors.
